HOW DID FUTURE OCEAN BEACH TRUST Inc. BEGIN?
Future Ocean Beach Trust Inc. was established as a result of the Hastings District Council’s direct financial involvement with a developer to process a Plan Change for one of New Zealand’s most extensive coastal wilderness landscapes.
This web site was set up to independently inform the public on the current and proposed development issues that threaten this iconic landscape.
We will endeavour to keep the public well informed on the issues at hand. We will provide you with the information needed to make comments and submissions to the appropriate government bodies.
No matter what your personal preference may be for development of Ocean Beach, we strongly encourage the public to be involved in this process and to express their views.
Whatever form of development might occur at Ocean Beach you should have your say.
Who we are
The trustees of Future Ocean Beach Trust Inc. are Tina Symmans (Consultant), Paddy Maloney (Retired Public Servant), Charles Whyte (Wine Industry) and Bruno Chambers (Farmer).
The public have different views on what, if any, development could be appropriate for Ocean Beach. We seek full and proper public consultation and to promote public awareness of the political and environmental issues that concern any future Plan Change at Ocean Beach.
We seek to inform and educate the public on matters concerning the proposed development of Ocean Beach and to promote public consultation and input.
We believe it is inappropriate for HDC to align itself with developers and use rate payer’s funds to promote urban development. Many previous Council commissioned reports have recommended that only limited and sensitive development would be appropriate at Ocean Beach, and that other areas in Hawke’s Bay would be more suitable to urban development.
